£13,555 raised for charity at Bericote and Tritax IAS golf day 2023

23/05/2023

On Tuesday 16th May 2023, 96 golfers gathered at The Grove in Hertfordshire for the fifth Bericote and Tritax IAS National James Swallow Memorial Charity Golf day.

Bjorn Hobart (Partner – Tritax Management LLP) welcomed everyone to the club and mentioned how delighted both Bericote and Tritax were to be supporting the day again, which was raising money for Safeline and Young Live vs Cancer. Jonathan Maher (Development Director – Bericote) then gave a brief progress report on development projects and in particular their scheme at Dartford.

Following some breakfast in the Players Lounge and an explanation on the format of the day, which was a 4BBB stableford, players headed out to the driving range and putting facilities to fine tune their skills. Yet again the weather behaved itself with warm sunny conditions and at 11.30am the shotgun golf day began.

The tricky par 3 hole at the 4th was nominated as one of the charity holes where players had to delve into their wallets for every shot that ended up in the water. Piers Ridout (Bericote) adjudicated this and Mark Ferguson (Tritax) took charge of the Par 3 hole at the 7th where players were also fined for not hitting the green with their tee shot. Both took on the task with relish ensuring that every offender paid their dues – no one escaped!

After a very enjoyable afternoons golf, players headed back to the Stable Courtyard for a well-earned drink, prize giving and a BBQ. On behalf of the IAS, Dan Harness, IAS Chair thanked Bericote and Tritax for their kind support of what is an incredibly popular event and thanked the golf club for putting on such a great day on a great golf course in such excellent condition.

Dan then handed over to Chris Jee who announced the results of the day and Jonathan Maher and Bjorn Hobart handed out the prizes.

1st place and winners of the James Swallow Memorial Trophy – Rory Banks, George Moriarty, Patrick Stanton, Tom Barton (89 points)

2nd Place – Jake Huntley, Charlie Wing, Jamie Catherall, Toby Marshall (82 points)

Men’s nearest the pin on 7 – Ed Kennerley

Ladies nearest the pin on 7 – Sophie Cordery

A prize was also awarded to Steph Lindley who announced on her designated tee at hole number 3 that she had never played golf before. She then promptly went and birdied the par 5 sixth.

We are delighted to announce that a total of £13,555 was raised from the day, which will be divided equally between the two charities.
